Faith, Sports and Athletes: A look into Game Changer Sports Ministry

By: Emily Bondi

Marty Martinosky, President and Founder of Game Changer Sports Ministry had two goals in mind when he came up with the idea, to create a student ministry featuring faith-based sports clubs on college campuses and in local schools and to create faith-based sports camps. Martinosky and six other NCAA athletes achieved their goal and as of 2017 are a fully insured 501C3 student ministry incorporated in Pennsylvania.

“We wanted to do things different. We wanted to serve student athletes using a sports platform while also building on their faith. 100% of our donations benefit student athletes and we are a complete service ministry,” explained Martinosky.

Game Changer Sports Ministry offers a few different avenues for student athletes to partake in.

The first aspect of their ministry is offering TEAMS. A TEAM is an on-campus faith-based sports club where all students are welcome.

Martinosky said, “with our TEAM ministry we offer schools complete training, promo package, starting budget, and ongoing support. Our website also offers over 5,000 lessons that are ready to go. It takes a student just minutes to plan a lesson that will focus on their sport.”

The response of TEAMS has been very positive and is continuing to grow. They are currently at Connellsville, Ligonier, Charleroi, Belle Vernon and Philipsburg Osceola high Schools. As well as Pitt Greensburg, Washington and Jefferson and Mt Aloysius College.

The second avenue Game Changer Sports Ministry offers is "Game On" faith-based sports camps at Camp Allegheny in Stoystown, PA and Jumonville in Hopwood, PA.

“At our camps we offer the best in NCAA Christian coaching. Our coaches are accomplished former NCAA athletes and current accomplished coaches. What’s unique about our camps is that not only do they receive great coaching, they can also swim, horseback ride, be challenged by our climbing walls, giant swings, enjoy really good food and comfy cabins. When our student athletes head hits the pillow at night, they have had an exciting day,” said Martinosky.

2021 will be an exciting year for “Game On” camps because they will be offering seven sports including men’s lacrosse, lady’s lacrosse, softball, volleyball, cross country, swimming and soccer. Basketball and baseball are in the planning stages for 2022.

In a few short years Game Changer has seen a positive impact on the athletic community and is only striving to grow.

Martinoksy added, “seeing the athletes at our camps and schools and hearing how our ministry has impacted their lives in such a positive way is why sharing Gods word with students and student athletes has been a passion of mine for over 30 years.”

In the near future Game Changer has big plans to continue to expand.

“We are in just a handful of high schools and colleges right now but see this growing significantly. We have received requests from five other states and two countries asking if we are coming their way,” Martinosky concluded.

We wish Game Changer Sports Ministry all the best in the future! If anyone is interested in learning more about them or creating your own “TEAM” please visit their website at www.gcsminc.com or email Marty Martinosky at mmartinoskyjr@gcsminc.com.
